Doobie Brothers成立於1970年的美國San Jose，是70年代美國流行搖滾的經典代表樂團，以當時流行文化--大麻葉的暱稱 "Doobie" 為團名。在1972年，Doobie Brothers的專輯 "Toulouse Street"，單曲「Listen To The Music」「Jesus Is Just Alright」成為他們的經典名曲；1973年的專輯 "The Captain And Me" 再下一城，單曲「Long Train Running」「China Grove」皆進入流行排行榜前十名。
1974年，樂團出現了第一支冠軍單曲「Black Water」，他們的聲譽與日俱增，接著由於吉他手Tom Johnston胃病住院必須脫隊，遞補的新主唱鍵盤手由更俱黑人唱腔的Michael McDonald接替，新組合包括來自Steely Dan的吉他手Jeff Baxter，1976年發表"Taking It To The Streets"成為Jazz、Funk、Pop經典之作。 1978年，更誕生了蟬聯五週的冠軍專輯"Minute By Minute"。
