The LORD’s Covenant With Abram
第十五章 Genesis 15
1.這事以後，耶和華在異象中有話對亞伯蘭說：「亞伯蘭，你不要懼怕！我是你的盾牌，必大大地賞賜你。」
After this, the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision: 「Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield,[a] your very great reward.[b]」

2.亞伯蘭說：「主耶和華啊，我既無子，你還賜我甚麼呢？並且要承受我家業的是大馬色人以利以謝。」
But Abram said, 「Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit[c] my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?」

3.亞伯蘭又說：「你沒有給我兒子；那生在我家中的人就是我的後嗣。」
And Abram said, 「You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.」
4.耶和華又有話對他說：「這人必不成為你的後嗣；你本身所生的才成為你的後嗣。」
Then the word of the LORD came to him: 「This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.」
5.於是領他走到外邊，說：「你向天觀看，數算眾星，能數得過來嗎？」又對他說：「你的後裔將要如此。」
He took him outside and said, 「Look up at the sky and count the stars－if indeed you can count them.」 Then he said to him, 「So shall your offspring[d] be.」

6.亞伯蘭信耶和華，耶和華就以此為他的義。
Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
7.耶和華又對他說：「我是耶和華，曾領你出了迦勒底的吾珥，為要將這地賜你為業。」
He also said to him, 「I am the LORD, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it.」
8.亞伯蘭說：「主耶和華啊，我怎能知道必得這地為業呢？」
But Abram said, 「Sovereign LORD, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?」
9.他說：「你為我取一隻三年的母牛，一隻三年的母山羊，一隻三年的公綿羊，一隻斑鳩，一隻雛鴿。」
So the LORD said to him, 「Bring me a heifer, a goat and a ram, each three years old, along with a dove and a young pigeon.」
10.亞伯蘭就取了這些來，每樣劈開，分成兩半，一半對著一半地擺列，只有鳥沒有劈開。
Abram brought all these to him, cut them in two and arranged the halves opposite each other; the birds, however, he did not cut in half.
11.有鷙鳥下來，落在那死畜的肉上，亞伯蘭就把牠嚇飛了。
Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses, but Abram drove them away.
12.日頭正落的時候，亞伯蘭沉沉地睡了；忽然有驚人的大黑暗落在他身上。
As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him.
13.耶和華對亞伯蘭說：「你要的確知道，你的後裔必寄居別人的地，又服事那地的人；那地的人要苦待他們四百年。
Then the LORD said to him, 「Know for certain that for four hundred years your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved and mistreated there.
14.並且他們所要服事的那國，我要懲罰，後來他們必帶著許多財物從那裏出來。
But I will punish the nation they serve as slaves, and afterward they will come out with great possessions.
15.但你要想大壽數，平平安安地歸到你列祖那裏，被人埋葬。
You, however, will go to your ancestors in peace and be buried at a good old age.
16.到了第四代，他們必回到此地，因為亞摩利人的罪孽還沒有滿盈。」
In the fourth generation your descendants will come back here, for the sin of the Amorites has not yet reached its full measure.」
17.日落天黑，不料有冒煙的爐並燒著火把從那些肉塊中經過。
When the sun had set and darkness had fallen, a smoking firepot with a blazing torch appeared and passed between the pieces.
18.當那日，耶和華與亞伯蘭立約，說：「我已賜給你的後裔，從埃及河直到伯拉大河之地，
On the day the LORD made a covenant with Abram and said, 「To your descendants I give this land, from the Wadi[e] of Egypt to the great river, the Euphrates－

第十六章 Genesis 16
Hagar and Ishmael
1.亞伯蘭的妻子撒萊不給他生兒女。撒萊有一個使女，名叫夏甲，是埃及人。
Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar;
2.撒萊對亞伯蘭說：「耶和華使我不能生育。求你和我的使女同房，或者我可以因她得孩子【得孩子：原文作被建立】。」亞伯蘭聽從了撒萊的話。
so she said to Abram, 「The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.」 Abram agreed to what Sarai said.
3.於是亞伯蘭的妻子撒萊將使女埃及人下賈給了丈夫為妾；那時亞伯蘭在迦南已經住了十年。
So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. |
