聖誕節前夕
有人忙著佈置
有人忙著狂歡
但也有人因為生活負擔而無暇去想聖誕節這件事
Do They Know It's Christmas這首歌就是在這情況下產生的

1984年
英國知名樂團「Boomtown Rats」的靈魂人物歌手Bob Geldof
造訪非洲乾旱肆虐的伊索匹亞
他親眼目睹饑民困苦的生活
回到英國之後他便於12月份發起英國歌手援助災民的義唱活動
此舉一出
當時的創世紀樂團(Genesis)主唱菲爾柯林斯（Phil Collins）率先響應
因為他看到新聞中伊索匹亞等地區人民
長期處於飢荒與營養不良而死亡
心裡希望能為他們做些事情
於是他們將團名取為「Band Aid」。

Band-Aid這個字的原意就是受傷時急救所用的「OK蹦」
而這一個英國歌手的愛心組合「Band Aid」
就在1984年的聖誕節前夕齊聚於錄音室
共同錄製了「Do They Know It's Christmas」這首經典名曲

事實上
在台灣的社會角落
也有不少過的比難民還辛苦的人
如果我們生活還過得去
特別是在這樣的節日
別忘了心存感激

唯一的甘霖竟是帶來刺痛的淚水

And the Christmas bells that ring there

聽不到聖誕的鈴聲

他們耳邊響起的是生命的喪鐘
