call me anal but the older I am the less I trust others when it comes to arranging trips and reservations
This guy told me that he reserved a room in the north rim of grand canyon for Saturday night after the hike
Since he decided not to do the hike, his room is available to be transferred
I asked him which lodge because there are only 3 in the north rim (the others are 40 miles north) within the park boundary
He told me Yavapai Lodge
I said Yavapai is in the south, not north, are you sure?
He said he was sure it is a Yavapai Lodge
Couple days later I called the lodge number he gave me to double check
Sure enough, it's in the south rim
A room in the south rim on Saturday night is totally useless for me because I'd be back to north rim by Saturday (we start the hike in the south Saturday morning at 5:30am to reach the north rim before sun down)
I had to hurry to reserve a camp site in the north rim campground for Sat night to have a place to pitch the tent to rest before leaving Grand Canyon on Sunday
Because of the mixup, the two guys who are supposed to share my room in the south on Friday night had to bail out of the hike
(They are doing rim to rim to rim, hiking from south to north, rest one night and back to south the next day)
Sure there are camp sites available in the North Rim but one must carry a tent, sleeping bag, and all the camping essential to spend a night in the camp site
Right now at night Grand Canyon temperature is in the 30's
One can not spend a night out in the open without a tent and a good sleeping bag
Since they don't want to carry the extra 30lb of camping items to do the R2R2R so they canceled
Which leaves me with no roommate to share the cost ($175/night!!!) of the room for Friday night!!!
I knew I should have listened to my instinct because I have done my research when I was looking for lodging in Grand Canyon for Friday night in the South and Saturday night in the north
Never trust something important to total strangers
At least double check to make sure everything is in order
Money is actually not that big of a deal
But some mistakes that others make can cost you your life
