World’s Fairs, known today as World 1)Expositions (or Expos for short), are large public exhibitions held regularly around the world. Expos serve a number of purposes: they give host cities the opportunity to stage a world-class event; they 2)facilitate international cultural exchange and understanding; and allow participating countries to enhance their 3)reputations through a process called “nation branding.” Expos are international exhibitions organized around 4)diverse themes like transportation, technology and 5)horticulture.
World Expos date all the way back to 1851, when the first World’s Fair was held in London. The Great Exhibition, as it is known today, was the first-ever international exhibition of 6)manufactured products.

The Origin of World’s Fairs 世界博覽會起源
19 世紀正值西方殖民蓬勃階段，英國可謂當時殖民國的龍頭。為了展現雄厚國力，並與 1844年法國在巴黎舉辦的「法國工業展」(French Industrial Exposition) 相互較勁，世界博覽會 (World’s Fair) 在維多利亞女王 (Queen Victoria) 的全力支持下於 1851 年舉辦，取名為「各國工業大展」(The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of All Nations)，簡稱為「大博覽會」 (The Great Exhibition)。
The Great Exhibition 舉辦地點為倫敦海德公園 (Hyde Park) 中的水晶宮 (The Crystal Palace)。以代表進步工業的鋼鐵與玻璃建造的水晶宮內巨木參天，暗示當時「人定勝天」戰勝自然的意識型態，為 19 世紀的建築奇觀，也是工業革命的重要象徵建築。

接下來，切記、切記，學單字千萬千萬不要只學一個單字，一定要將以下1.2.3.給弄懂而且還要透過Dr. eye、將每個單字與例句的聽、讀、說、寫都要熟稔
1.弄清動詞的詞類變化. 如exhibit的動變: exhibited; exhibited; exhibiting名複: exhibits
2. 知道該單字的其他如動、副、形、名詞的詞類變化，例如，妳除了透過Dr. eye軟體中，知道關於exhibit這個單字的前一個與後一個單字外，妳也可以同時複製Exhibit這個單字，進到雅虎首頁左邊的【字典】對話框貼上後按搜尋，右邊會出現「相似字詞」，妳可以一目暸然將這些相似字詞的發音、以及詞性背得滾瓜爛熟，這樣的話，當別人一次只背一個單字時，妳可以一次背許多的單字，而且非常不容易忘記。

上面七個單字的發音你一定要唸得滾瓜爛熟，如第 3.4.5.6.個單字前面的發音，與第1.2.7個單字不同，還有，其實你在背誦 3.4.5.6 個單字時，只要念熟 bition、bitioner、bitionism、bitionist 就可以了，最好是重複不斷的念，念到你可以將 bition、bitioner、bitionism、bitionist 在2秒鐘內 給念完、最好是20秒重複10次的熟練度喔。當然，也不要忘記了前面是 exhib 而非 exhi 的發音喔。
當然，你也要熟記….ner與…nist的差異，以免當你去報案時鬧出大笑話喔。
還有，你也可以將Dr. eye所顯示的單字（如exhibit）從英漢主辭典(繁體)轉換成英漢雙解辭典（繁體），這樣的話更能夠用英文去思考，如下
