The Perfect Shot
Lie Zi was showing Bohun Wuren his skill in archery. After drawing his bow, he balanced a glass of water on his elbow. As soon as the first arrow flew off, the second arrow was wound up. As soon as the second arrow flew off, the third arrow was wound up. During all this time, his body was as still as a statue.
"This is still an intentional shot, not quite the perfect shot yet," said Bohun Wuren. "Let s climb up the mountain and stand on the precipice overhanging the abyss. We ll see if you can shoot!"
So they climbed up a high mountain and stood on the precipice overhanging the abyess. With his back facing the abyss, Bohun Wuren slowly stepped back until two thirds of the soles of his feet were hanging over the brink. He then invited Lie Zi to do the same.
Lie Zi was so terrified that he held fast to the ground, sweating from head to foot.
Bohun Wuren looked at him and observed coolly, "The best archer can look up at the blue skies, down the nether world, to the eight poles of the earth and still keep his air. Here on this mountain, you re already panicking, your chanecs of hitting your mark are very slim."
