二三十年前, 個人電腦是新興,成長的工業; 現在, 個人電腦是成熟，飽和的工業. 二三十年前, 硬體較值錢, 利潤較厚; 現在, 硬體價格下跌, 利潤已經達到割喉. 相對地, 操作系統軟體佔整台電腦價錢的比例增加. 由於市場成熟飽和, 現在銷售個人電腦, 多要依賴微軟公司推出新的操作系統. 可以說, 微軟公司控制許多台灣人的飯碗.
微軟公司最新的操作系統 Windows 8 快要出來了. 這個星期, 微軟公司發表了二個 Windows 8 產品: Surface 與 Surface Pro. 不幸的是, 這一次, 微軟公司要自己製造, 自己銷售這兩個產品. 就是說, 微軟公司已經把整碗公捧走了.
台灣的廠商還能依賴微軟公司嗎? 自由軟體 Linux 可能是台灣廠商的一條生路, 一條活路; 但台灣廠商有勇氣, 走這條路嗎?
