It is very true, we have the Social Security benefit once you reach age of 62. But you have to wait until 66 or even 67, which depends on what year you were born, to collect 100% Social Security benefit. If you start collecting at age of 62, you will get 28% discount.

The maximum security benefit this year is around $2700 (per month) for full retirement benefit. It is also true that your spouse can collect 50% for her spousal social benefit even she or he has never worked for a single day.

Here is my optimized calculation, if you and your spouse both hit full retirement age and collect the maximum social security benefit,

$2700 + $1300 (Spousal benefit) = $4000. You annual income will be $48000 if you don't have any other sources of income.

Btw, you still need to pay tax on Social Security benefit. If couple file jointly, If your combined income exceeds $32000 per year, you need to pay Federal and state income tax.
