I have to say that Uni-President Lions is the richest team in CPBL, so if they found that you’re not as good as they thought, they’ll just release you and pay for another player. If you’re in other teams, maybe they’ll give you more time. (You can see Kobayashi who’s in Brothers Elephant, the coach and team leader give him so much time either he has performed so bad recently.)

the fact is that CPBL have foreign player limits, so when they find foreign players they seek for those who can bring immediate help, defence or offense.
Rico’s stats are .297 with 3hrs and 7errors in 19 games and The Lions are asking better for that.
I don’t know if he is injured or not and I don’t know how the Lions treat Rico, but good players stay and the regarded as not-good-enough go, this is how it works in CPBL.

poor defense and sightly above-average ops,CPBL always hopes foreign player has dominant performance because of almost the highest salary
Like rookies in MLB,CPBL has less patience for new foreign players

I just have to say, “Change your mentality, Mr.Washington”
It’s normal that you are fired due to your terrible performance. It’s the professional baseball. With your poor batting average which is less than 0.300 and frenquent errors in
critical moments-infact, without your errors, the UNI-Lions has already leaded
by 1.5 games-
you’ll be heckled wherever you go.The honor of Taiwan- Chien-Ming Wang got 19 wins for continuous 2 seasons.
The NYY still makes him back to spring training for merely 3 bad pitching games
, and the media in New York all critize his performance seriously.Johnson, who comes from Canada, is also fired inexplicable in his short trip in
South Korea. And Gold, who is the ex-team player of LA NEW Bears. He is a big hitter in 3A
at any rate, but is fired too because of his bad performance like you.I have to give you an advice, Mr.Washington. You have to learn the reality
of world. Wherever you go, there is no difference about the attitude of profession baseball team toward your bad performance. To say the truth, if you still blame god and man, I think you no longer
fit for professional baseball. Maybe you should try different occupation, which
is better for you.

You need to check your numbers, sir. Nate Gold is NOT a dominant hitter in AAA by any, any stretch of the imagination. Gold batted .255 in 127 games for the AAA Oklahoma City RedHawks in 2008. Gold is hitting .189 thru his first eleven games in 2009 since returning to Oklahoma City after his release by the La New Bears of Taiwan.
Any comparison to Washington (.297) and Gold (.221) in terms of production in the CPBL, in my mind, would be apples and oranges.
I understand the CPBL expect alot from foreigners. The issue here is the injury stuff.
By the way, with respect to CHIEN MING WANG and the New York Yankees:
This is LEHIGH VALLEY IRONPIGS country, the AAA affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies from Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Our arch-rival are the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees, who are, of course, the affiliate of the New York Yankees.
If Wang pitches against the IronPigs, he will be shelled!!!
That is what I say about Chien Ming Wang. If he comes to play for the IronPigs, we will root for a no-hitter.

Mr. Washington claimed the Lions lied about the reason he was released. However, neither him nor the Lions produced physical proof of whether or not Mr. Washington was injured. We may never know the answer as long as both parties do not come forward with proof.
Mr. Washington may argue that he performed well in Taiwan, but is that really the case? Mr. Washington was signed by the Lions to cover third base and to fill the spot on the offensive lineup left by Tilson Brito. Now, Mr. Washington’s offensive statstics may look good – .297, 3 HRs, 12 RBIs in 19 games – if he was playing for another team; the majority of players on the lineup perform just about the same if not better.
Now, take a look at the defensive statstics. A fielding average of .917 with 7 errors in 19 games may be okay for an indigenous play, but for a foreign player? Why should a team pays someone thousands of dollars when a local can do just the same with half the pay? Furthermore, as mentioned above, Mr. Washington was signed to cover third base, how did he do in that spot? The answer is a fielding average of .886. Even the rookie the Lions signed at the beginning of the season did better than Mr. Washington.
Now, one may ask “Why not give him time to develop and improve?” First, Mr. Washington is 30 years old, there is very little room for improvement. Second, the reason the team (and any other pro baseball team in Asia) signed him is to help the team improve offensively and defensively, not the othe way around.
There is only one thing I don’t understand. How does Mr. Washington not understand why he was released when his performance wasn’t all that impresive? Why should the Lions keep him on the team when he can easily be replaced by a indeginous player?
I do pity Mr. Washington. His contract with the Lions was disadvantagious. But on the other hand, with the performance he gave, he does not deserve to be kept on the team either.

My point is, if the team want to release Washington for lack of performance, fine.
Then say so.
Do not say he was carrying injuries when he was signed and the club did not know. It took 19 games to figure that Washington was hiding injuries?

to lvironpigs,
maybe you can ask Uni-President Lions’s coach
Batting Coach-Anthony Lewis Torchia
Pitching Coach-Franil Reberger
they might know more
,but it’s sorry that i don’t know their e-mail
for fans in Taiwan, poor performance is undoubtedly*3 the main reason, but i also agree Taiwan managements have some problems for both foreign and native players
maybe Rico Washington don’t fit for CPBL,and cheer him on,truely

Injury or not, I don’t know, but in the 1st 4 games Mr. Rico Washington played. His hitting rate was .200 and made 3 losing-errors. I guess it’s easier that Un-Lions fired him back then. However, I guess you’ll have something else to say about that again….
I can understand it’s hard to maintain a website but being fair and look at things from both side may find you a new balance….

why don’t you ask Washington what the health status his knee(s) is?
Is it totally healthy? or just that his knee was not hurt at the time he was signed but had been injured before and that have affected his performance? Did he keep the injury history from the Lions management?
Honesty would make a man true hero.

Washington, in his original statement, said that he was not hurt when he signed his contract.
I cannot say I am a doctor. And, even if I was, I did not examine Washington’s knee so I could not say for sure if the player was injured or not.
It is basically the player’s word versus the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions management’s word.
Whom do you believe?
My own personal opinion – Lions bagged Wasington to make room for Castillo. Washington’s batting average was not like, say, Nate Gold of La New Bears, and, thus, a reason was needed to justify matters so that the club would not look so ruthless.
