GREAT WALL BUILT WITH RICE

萬里長城屹立不搖的秘密

Some Chinese professors have discovered that the Great Wall of China's strength comes from sticky rice.

During the Might dynasty, workers used a paste of sticky rice flour and lime th hold the bricks together.

This combination has remained compact and strong for around 600 years and will likely hold up the Great Wall for many year.

中國的一些教授們發現中國萬里長城的堅實來自於糯米

明朝期間，工人們使用糯米粉與石灰的漿來砌磚

這個混和體屹立了約六百多年，依然結實強壯，且將可能支撐萬里長城更多年

TUITION DECREASE NOT FOR EVERYONE

私校學費補助非人人受惠

Taiwan's Ministry of Education (MOE) ran into problem with its policy to lower private high school tuition.

At first, the MOE said only households with an annul income of less than NT$ 600,000 would have the lower tuition.

This would drop the price to be the same as that at public high school : a little over NT$ 6,000 per semester.

However, many schools and parents felt misled.

There was so much protest that the government then offered subsidies to families with an annual income of less than NT$ 900,000.

In addition, some private schools have offered help to students who still do not meet the MOE's guidelines.

台灣教育部因調降私立中學學費政策遇到問題

教育部起初說只有年收入低於新台幣六十萬的家庭可享有較低的學費

此政策可將就讀私校的費用降低到與公立高中的費用相同：每學期新台幣六千出頭

然而，許多學校和家長覺得受騙

由於抗議的聲浪很大，於是政府提供補助金給年收入低於九十萬新台幣的家庭

此外，部分私立學校已提供協助給仍然不符教育部補助方針的學生

Titan, one of Saturn's moons, has scientists excited about life ─ alien life.

The amount and location of certain gases in this cold moon's atmosphere hint that there might be life on Titan's surface.

More research is needed to discover what kind of life that could be.

土星的衛星之一泰坦星上的外星生命讓科學家興奮不已

這個冰冷衛星的大氣中某些氣體的量和所在地暗示泰坦星表面可能有生命

THE LEANING TOWER OF.......ABUDHABI？

世界最斜塔 ─ 首都之門

Guinness World Records says that the Capital Gate building in Abu Dhabi is the world's futhest leaning tower.

The building leans fourteen degrees more than the famous tower in Pisa.

Abu Dhabi's architectural wonder is set to be finished by the end of 2010.

《金式世界記錄》記載阿布達比的首都之門建築物是全世界最傾斜的塔

此建築物比著名的比薩斜塔更傾斜十四度

阿布達比這座建築奇景預定在2010年底完工
