Gideon Defeats the Midianites
第七章 Judges 7
1.耶路巴力就是基甸，他和一切跟隨的人早晨起來，在哈律泉旁安營。米甸營在他們北邊的平原，靠近摩利岡。
Early in the morning, Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) and all his men camped at the spring of Harod. The camp of Midian was north of them in the valley near the hill of Moreh.
2.耶和華對基甸說：「跟隨你的人過多，我不能將米甸人交在他們手中，免得以色列人向我誇大，說：『是我們自己的手救了我們。』
The LORD said to Gideon, 「You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, 『My own strength has saved me.』
3.現在你要向這些人宣告說：『凡懼怕膽怯的，可以離開基列山回去。』」於是有二萬二千人回去，只剩下一萬。
Now announce to the army, 『Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.』」 So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.
4.耶和華對基甸說：「人還是過多；你要帶他們下到水旁，我好在那裡為你試試他們。我指點誰說：『這人可以同你去』，他就可以同你去；我指點誰說：『這人不可同你去』，他就不可同你去。」
But the LORD said to Gideon, 「There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will thin them out for you there. If I say, 『This one shall go with you,』 he shall go; but if I say, 『This one shall not go with you,』 he shall not go.」
5.基甸就帶他們下到水旁。耶和華對基甸說：「凡用舌頭舔水，像狗舔的，要使他單站在一處；凡跪下喝水的，也要使他單站在一處。」
So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the LORD told him, 「Separate those who lap the water with their tongues as a dog laps from those who kneel down to drink.」
6.於是用手捧著舔水的有三百人，其餘的都跪下喝水。
Three hundred of them drank from cupped hands, lapping like dogs. All the rest got down on their knees to drink.
7.耶和華對基甸說：「我要用這舔水的三百人拯救你們，將米甸人交在你手中；其餘的人都可以各歸各處去。」
The LORD said to Gideon, 「With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the others go home.」
8.這三百人就帶著食物和角；其餘的以色列人，基甸都打發他們各歸各的帳棚，只留下這三百人。米甸營在他下邊的平原裏。
So Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites home but kept the three hundred, who took over the provisions and trumpets of the others. Now the camp of Midian lay below him in the valley.
9.當那夜，耶和華吩咐基甸說：「起來，下到米甸營裏去，因我已將他們交在你手中。
During that night the LORD said to Gideon, 「Get up, go down against the camp, because I am going to give it into your hands.
10.倘若你怕下去，就帶你的僕人普拉下到那營裏去。
If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah
11.你必聽見他們所說的，然後你就有膽量下去攻營。」於是基甸帶著僕人普拉下到營旁。
and listen to what they are saying. Afterward, you will be encouraged to attack the camp.」 So he and Purah his servant went down to the outposts of the camp.
12.米甸人、亞瑪力人，和一切東方人都布散在平原，如同蝗蟲那樣多。他們的駱駝無數，多如海邊的沙。
The Midianites, the Amalekites and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.
13.基甸到了，就聽見一人將夢告訴同伴說：「我做了一夢，夢見一個大麥餅滾入米甸營中，到了帳幕，將帳幕撞倒，帳幕就翻轉傾覆了。」
Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend his dream. 「I had a dream,」 he was saying. 「A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed.」
14.那同伴說：「這不是別的，乃是以色列人約阿施的兒子基甸的刀； 神已將米甸和全軍都交在他的手中。」
His friend responded, 「This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands.」
15.基甸聽見這夢和夢的講解，就敬拜 神，回到以色列營中，說：「起來吧！耶和華已將米甸的軍隊交在你們手中了。」
When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed down and worshiped. He returned to the camp of Israel and called out, 「Get up! The LORD has given the Midianite camp into your hands.」
16.於是基甸將三百人分作三隊，把角和空瓶交在各人手裏（瓶內都藏著火把），
Dividing the three hundred men into three companies, he placed trumpets and empty jars in the hands of all of them, with torches inside.
17.吩咐他們說：「你們要看我行事；我到了營的旁邊怎樣行，你們也要怎樣行。
「Watch me,」 he told them. 「Follow my lead. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do.
18.我和一切跟隨我的人吹角的時候，你們也要在營的四圍吹角，喊叫說：『耶和華和基甸的刀！』」
When I and all who are with me blow our trumpets, then from all around the camp blow yours and shout, 『For the LORD and for Gideon.』」 |
