10.他父親下去見女子。參孫在那裏設擺筵宴，因為向來少年人都有這個規矩。
Now his father went down to see the woman. And there Samson held a feast, as was customary for young men.
11.眾人看見參孫，就請了三十個人陪伴他。
When the people saw him, they chose thirty men to be his companions.
12.參孫對他們說：「我給你們出一個謎語，你們在七日筵宴之內，若能猜出意思告訴我，我就給你們三十件裏衣，三十套衣裳；
「Let me tell you a riddle,」 Samson said to them. 「If you can give me the answer within the seven days of the feast, I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.
13.你們若不能猜出意思告訴我，你們就給我三十件裏衣，三十套衣裳。」他們說：「請將謎語說給我們聽。」
If you can’t tell me the answer, you must give me thirty linen garments and thirty sets of clothes.」 「Tell us your riddle,」 they said. 「Let’s hear it.」
14.參孫對他們說：「吃的從吃者出來；甜的從強者出來。」他們三日不能猜出謎語的意思。
He replied, 「Out of the eater, something to eat; out of the strong, something sweet.」 For three days they could not give the answer.
15.到第七天，他們對參孫的妻說：「你誆哄你丈夫，探出謎語的意思告訴我們，免得我們用火燒你和你父家。你們請了我們來，是要奪我們所有的嗎？」
On the fourth[a] day, they said to Samson’s wife, 「Coax your husband into explaining the riddle for us, or we will burn you and your father’s household to death. Did you invite us here to steal our property?」

16.參孫的妻在丈夫面前啼哭說：「你是恨我，不是愛我，你給我本國的人出謎語，卻沒有將意思告訴我。」參孫回答說：「連我父母我都沒有告訴，豈可告訴你呢？」
Then Samson’s wife threw herself on him, sobbing, 「You hate me! You don’t really love me. You’ve given my people a riddle, but you haven’t told me the answer.」 「I haven’t even explained it to my father or mother,」 he replied, 「so why should I explain it to you?」
17.七日筵宴之內，她在丈夫面前啼哭，到第七天逼著他，他才將謎語的意思告訴他妻，他妻就告訴本國的人。
She cried the whole seven days of the feast. So on the seventh day he finally told her, because she continued to press him. She in turn explained the riddle to her people.
18.到第七天，日頭未落以前，那城裏的人對參孫說：「有什麼比蜜還甜呢？有什麼比獅子還強呢？」參孫對他們說：「你們若非用我的母牛犢耕地，就猜不出我謎語的意思來。」
Before sunset on the seventh day the men of the town said to him, 「What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?」 Samson said to them, 「If you had not plowed with my heifer, you would not have solved my riddle.」
19.耶和華的靈大大感動參孫，他就下到亞實基倫，擊殺了三十個人，奪了他們的衣裳，將衣裳給了猜出謎語的人。參孫發怒，就上父家去了。
Then the Spirit of the LORD came powerfully upon him. He went down to Ashkelon, struck down thirty of their men, stripped them of everything and gave their clothes to those who had explained the riddle. Burning with anger, he returned to his father’s home.
20.參孫的妻便歸了參孫的陪伴，就是作過他朋友的。
And Samson’s wife was given to one of his companions who had attended him at the feast. |
