8.耶和華 神在東方的伊甸立了一個園子,把所造的人安置在那裏。
Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.
9.耶和華 神使各樣的樹從地裏長出來,可以悅人的眼目,其上的果子好作食物。園子當中又有生命樹和分別善惡樹。
The LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground-trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
10.有河從伊甸流出來,滋潤那園子,從那裏分為四道:
A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters.
11.第一道名叫比遜,就是環繞哈腓拉全地的,在那裏有金子。
The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.
12.並且那地的金子是好的;在那裏又有珍珠和紅瑪瑙。
(The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin[d] and onyx are also there.)

13.第二道河名叫基訓,就是環繞古實全地的。
The name of the second river is Gihon, it winds through the entire land of Cush.[e]

The name of the third river is the Tight; is runs along the east side of Ashur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates.
15.耶和華 將那人安置在伊甸園,使他修理,看守。
The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
16.耶和華 神吩咐他說:「園中各樣樹上的果子,你可以隨意吃,
And the LORD God commanded the man, 「You are free to eat from any tree in the garden;
17.只是分別善惡樹上的果子,你不可吃,因為你吃的日子必定死!」
but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.」
為男人造配偶
18.耶和華 神說:「那人獨居不好,我要為他造一個配偶幫助他。」
The LORD God said, 「It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.」
19.耶和華 神用土所造成的野地各樣走獸和空中各樣飛鳥都帶到那人面前,看他叫什麼。那人怎樣叫各樣的活物,那就是牠的名字。
Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.
20.那人便給一切牲畜,和空中飛鳥、野地走獸,都起了名;只是那人,沒有遇見配偶幫他。
So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.
But for Adam[f] no suitable helper was found.

21.耶和華 神使他沉睡,他就睡了;於是取下他的一條肋骨,又把肉合起來。
So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs[g] and then closed up the place with flesh.

22.耶和華 神就用那人身上所取的肋骨,造成一個女人,領她到那人跟前。
Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib[h] he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.

23.那人說:「這是我骨中的骨,肉中的肉,可以稱她為『女人』,因為她是從『男人』身上取下來的。」
The man said, 「This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 『woman,』 for she was taken out of man.」
24.因此,人要離開父母,與妻子連合,二人成為一體。
That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.
25.當時夫妻二人赤身露體,並不羞恥。
Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.
