31.古示人也來到,說:「有信息報給我主我王!耶和華今日向一切興起攻擊你的人給你報仇了。」
Then the Cushite arrived and said, 「My lord the king, hear the good news! The LORD has vindicated you today by delivering you from the hand of all who rose up against you.」
32.王問古示人說:「少年人押沙龍平安不平安?」古示人回答說:「願我主我王的仇敵,和一切興起要殺害你的人,都與那少年人一樣。」
The king asked the Cushite, 「Is the young man Absalom safe?」 The Cushite replied, 「May the enemies of my lord the king and all who rise up to harm you be like that young man.」
33.王就心裏傷慟,上城門樓去哀哭,一面走一面說:「我兒押沙龍啊!我兒,我兒押沙龍啊!我恨不得替你死,押沙龍啊,我兒!我兒!」
The king was shaken. He went up to the room over the gateway and wept. As he went, he said: 「O my son Absalom! My son, my son Absalom! If only I had died instead of you—O Absalom, my son, my son!」[g]
