第二十四章 2 Samuel 24
1.耶和華又向以色列人發怒，就激動大衛，使他吩咐人去數點以色列人和猶大人。
Again the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, 「Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.」
2.大衛就吩咐跟隨他的元帥約押說：「你去走遍以色列眾支派，從但直到別是巴，數點百姓，我好知道他們的數目。」
So the king said to Joab and the army commanders[a] with him, 「Go throughout the tribes of Israel from Dan to Beersheba and enroll the fighting men, so that I may know how many there are.」

But Joab replied to the king, 「May the LORD your God multiply the troops a hundred times over, and may the eyes of my lord the king see it. But why does my lord the king want to do such a thing?」
4.但王的命令勝過約押和眾軍長。約押和眾軍長就從王面前出去，數點以色列的百姓。
The king’s word, however, overruled Joab and the army commanders; so they left the presence of the king to enroll the fighting men of Israel.
5.他們過了約但河，在迦得谷中、城的右邊亞羅珥安營，與雅謝相對，
After crossing the Jordan, they camped near Aroer, south of the town in the gorge, and then went through Gad and on to Jazer.
6.又到了基列和他停合示地，又到了但雅安，繞到西頓，
They went to Gilead and the region of Tahtim Hodshi, and on to Dan Jaan and around toward Sidon.
7.來到推羅的保障，並希未人和迦南人的各城，又到猶大南方的別是巴。
Then they went toward the fortress of Tyre and all the towns of the Hivites and Canaanites. Finally, they went on to Beersheba in the Negev of Judah.
8.他們走遍全地，過了九個月零二十天，就回到耶路撒冷。
After they had gone through the entire land, they came back to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.
9.約押將百姓的總數奏告於王：以色列拿刀的勇士有八十萬；猶大有五十萬。
Joab reported the number of the fighting men to the king: In Israel there were eight hundred thousand able-bodied men who could handle a sword, and in Judah five hundred thousand.
