巔峰
鼓手匹克在1982年《愛情無價》發行後離開，由泰利·威廉（Terry William）接替。1985年，鍵盤手蓋·弗萊徹（Guy Fletcher）加盟（他後來一直追隨馬克）。1985年夏，困境的第五張專輯《手足情深》（Brothers in Arm）橫空出世，將樂隊推上商業成就的巔峰。專輯在美國雄居榜首九周，在英國更成為1980年代最熱銷的唱片。險峻海峽一舉成為炙手可熱的大牌樂隊。即使在歐美以外，包括中國、印度、東南亞、非洲等世界各地，險峻海峽也是最著名的西方樂隊之一。
險峻海峽在《手足情深》發行後進行了總計200餘場，盛況空前的巡迴演出。之後，馬克不喜盛名之擾，轉而專註於電影配樂和與其他音樂家進行各種合作，曾經幫《地方英雄》（Local Hero，1983年）在內的幾部電影撰寫配樂，樂團反而進入半休眠狀態，5年間只發行了一張精選。1990年，馬克重招舊部，於1991年發行第六張專輯《每一條街上》（On Every Street）。《每一條街上》樂風大趨成熟，堪稱上佳之作。然而一方面因為時隔已久，樂團風頭已過，號召力大不如前。另一方面《每一條街上》蒼勁沉鬱，對年輕一代來講口味略嫌老成，因而其商業成就平平。
80 年代常聽西洋音樂及看 MTV 的我，被這首 Money for nothing~Dire Straits所吸引。來自英國的 Dire Straits 總是比其他的美式團體多著一點點高貴的紳士氣息，是我最喜愛的樂團之一。樂團的靈魂人物主唱兼主奏吉他 Mark Knopfler 沙啞耐聽的嗓音與現場演唱的功力，讓 Dire Straits 的音樂有著非常獨特的風格。 而Dire Straits的Live專輯《Alchemy》更是我最愛的一張，兩張一套的《Alchemy》收錄了Dire Straits樂團前期創作的菁華，11首歌，每首歌都能招徠滿滿的驚嘆號，那是在錄音間反覆彈唱所不能及的爽快精采，單是一首"Sultans of Swing"就值回票價了。
在此推薦的這首romeo and juliet【羅密歐與朱麗葉】，是一個耳熟能詳的愛情故事，但給英國搖滾樂Dire Straits娓娓道來就另有一種味道，細心留意歌詞你會發現這首歌其實是描寫兩人分手後的情景，豐富的歌詞令人印象深刻，深夜人靜時聽起來特別的有感覺，尤其那撒克斯風solo部份，更是讓人心動ㄚ。
